Add a new lecture series

Use this checklist whenever you start another course (e.g. Generative AI foundations, a CV series, etc.). The site is designed so each series is a folder + a sidebar block.

1. Copy the template

Copy-Item -Recurse templates\new-course courses\SERIES_ID

Replace SERIES_ID with a short slug, e.g. mfgenai, dl-specialization.

2. Edit the course home page

Open courses/SERIES_ID/index.qmd:

  • Set title, instructor, links
  • Set YAML sidebar: SERIES_ID (must match step 3)

3. Register navigation in _quarto.yml

A. Navbar → Courses menu — uncomment / add:

- text: Your Series Title
  href: courses/SERIES_ID/index.qmd

B. New sidebar — copy the commented SERIES_ID block and fill lecture paths:

- id: SERIES_ID
  title: "Short Name"
  style: docked
  search: true
  contents:
    - courses/SERIES_ID/index.qmd
    - section: "Lectures"
      contents:
        - courses/SERIES_ID/lectures/01-.../notes.qmd
    - courses/SERIES_ID/references.qmd

C. Courses index table — add a row in courses/index.qmd and optionally on the home page.

4. Add lectures as you go

For each lecture:

courses/SERIES_ID/lectures/NN-short-slug/
  notes.qmd # reading notes
  tutorial.ipynb # optional beginner notebook
  self-check-answers.qmd

Every page should include:

sidebar: SERIES_ID

Then append the new files under that sidebar’s contents in _quarto.yml.

Naming tips

Good SERIES_ID Avoid
mfml, mfgenai, cs231n spaces, capitals, long titles
Stable forever renaming later breaks URLs
