Lecture 3 — Self-check answers

Exercises (sample)

  1. groupId — org/namespace; artifactId — project name; version — release id.
  2. compile produces .class files; package also builds the distributable JAR/WAR in target/ (and runs earlier phases including tests by default).
  3. Local Maven repository, typically ~/.m2/repository (Windows: C:\Users\<you>\.m2\repository).
  4. It is generated output; regenerable via Maven; committing it clutters git and causes merge noise.

Self-check

  1. A work-in-progress / not a final release (changing artifact). Prefer stable releases while learning.
  2. False. package builds locally. Publishing to Central is a separate, intentional process (deploy + credentials / publishing setup).
  3. Example order: validate → compile → test → package → verify → install → deploy.
